Q.  What is Ho'omau Fire Academy about?
A.  Ho'omau Fire Academy was established in August 2020 to "invest in our youth".  As members of the Federal Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) we witness a high turnover in our respective professions.  The Academy provides youth with the opportunity to prepare for the Fire Service, EMS, Military and Entrepreneurship.  

Q.  What is the ages of the Ho'omau Fire Academy?
A.  We currently accept applicants between the ages of 16-24 with exceptions made for older applicants.

Q.  How long is the Academy?
A.  We run for 6 consecutive Saturday's.  There's additional days that come up from time to time.  

Q.  What's kind of curriculum does Ho'omau Fire Academy offer?
A.  We teach the following:  Public Speaking, How to build a professional resume, How to win the interview, Mock interviews, CPR/AED Certification, Community Service and Hands on Training (HOT).

Q.  What kind of Hands On Training (HOT) do we teach?
A.  We teach - Forcible Entry, Hose Deployment, Hose Advancement and Hose Loads.

Q.  How long are class days?
A.  We start at 0800 and finish our day with lunch at 1pm.

Q.  Is there a cost to enter?
A.  Our course is FREE?

Q.  Are cell phones allowed during class?
A.  No, cadets are required to turn in their phones before the start of class.  

Q.  Does completion of the Academy get me hired into a local Fire Department?
A.  Absolutely NOT!

Q.  Is there job placement/referrals after completing the Academy?
A.  We try our hardest to get our cadets hired.

Q.  Does the Academy provide Letters of Recommendations after completing the course?

A.  Yes, but on a case by case basis.  There is no guarantee that each cadet will receive a Letter of Recommendation.  

Q.  Are cadets required to wear uniforms?
A.  Yes, cadets are provided a FREE Uniform t-shirt but is required to purchase their own pants (navy blue), belt (black) and boots (black).  Additional t-shirts can be purchased for $20.00.

A.  At Palama Settlement:  810 N. Vineyard Blvd., Honolulu, HI

Q.  How many classes do we have per year?
A.  We have 4 per year.
